Aircraft Body Design

AIRCRAFT BODY DESIGN (320 HRS) OVERVIEW

 Aircraft refer primarily to commercial, and business airplanes, and many subsonic and supersonic fighter planes. Owing to an unprecedented growth of air traffic and emergence of new sets of users, there is a constant need to design new aircraft models and passenger aircraft.   Designers need conceptual creativity skills and strong background in aerodynamic, structural and propulsive technologies. Also as the introduction of software tools has drastically changed the aircraft development scene, designers need to acquire skills to use software in aircraft sizing, performance analysis, weight and cost prediction, among others.Why should you learn?The course covers technqiues to capture functional objectives, ideation of initial and advanced concepts, creating prototypes, and testing & design of production processes. It also teaches product planning and research.Learning objectivesThe course aims to impart training in all areas of aircraft design including design of aircraft fuselage, aircraft wing, aircraft empennage, and composites. In addition, it lets you gain a good understanding of reverse engineering, and knowledge in computational fluid dynamics for aircraft body.   Providing equal importance to training in CAD software, the course teaches CATIA V5, CATIA Composites, and Ansys Fluent, besides it introduces students to the exciting world of additive manufacturing or 3D printing. Another unique feature of the course is that it introduces project planning and management concepts and best practices in the industry.Learning outcomesGetting to know the ins and outs of aeronautical engineering, you will have a sound knowledge of aircraft structure, aircraft body components, and aircraft materials.   You will learn all about fuselage, and its structures. You will be able to design fuselage using CATIA.   You will know of aircraft wing, its structures, and design them with CATIA   You will understand how aircraft empennage and its structures work. You will know how to design them using CATIA   You will get introduced to design of composites involving manual ply creation, ply management, composite grid design, plies generation, creation of standard contour, and limiting of plies from panels.   In reverse engineering, you will know how to do the processing of cloud point data; mesh processing; scans & curves; creating surfaces; surface to solid conversion; and aspects of 3D printing/additive manufacturing such as preparation of print ready file, object placement, print settings, manual controls, environmental factors, and finishing methods.   You will learn the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, ANSYS Fluent software, flow mix and heat transfer, turbulent, transonic, periodic flow, multiple species, radiation and natural convection; analysis of siphoning model, and aircraft-specific models.

Automotive Body Design

(DURATION: 9 MONTHS + STIPEND)

Overview

Automotive body design gives a vehicle its design, style and personality. It is at the forefront of how a vehicle is perceived and directly influences a customer's buying decision. However, automotive body design involves not just designing of new concepts but also the designing of processes of production.

Owing to competition, and globalization of the automobile industry, this branch of engineering design witnesses an influx of innovation. Constant learning of changing design practices and software tools is a must.

Why should you learn?

This course will fire up your interest in automotive body design. It will introduce you to all stages of designing automobiles - from drawing board to street. The focus, true to the title of the course, will be on the architecture of automotive body and how to graphically represent body parts using software. 

The objective of the course is to train you in designing primary body parts - body shell, body components, and body interior components of commercial and industrial vehicles. 

The course will guide you through the processes - starting from sketching to taking the sketch to a photo realistic model and to pre-production prototypes. Professional taking up the course will be able to shorten body development time.

Learning objectives

The course aims to provide sound knowledge in concept design and production design. The subjects covered in concept design are product planning and research, defining functional objectives, design and package ideation, benchmarking, sizing and proportions, and advanced design package and clay model development. On the production design side, the course aims to give exposure to student in production design, production engineering and creating prototype and testing. Students will acquire and strengthen skills involved in creating vehicle body design concepts; automotive styling and class A surfacing, automotive BIW design, Computer Aided reverse engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The highlight of the course is that it gives projects in each of these competencies and lines up with experts to guide students in the project.

Learning outcomes

You will know the basics of automotive design, functional design and positioning; vehicle packaging; all about chassis and bodies You will get introduced to automotive styling and learn how to build and control simple and complex geometry; CV sculpting method; CLASS A surfacing; surface conversion to other CAD; surface evaluation; and show room rendering.You will know how to create a full sized mock-up of the final design (body in white - BIW) by learning specifications, components and functional requirements; jigs and fixtures; design of sheet metals components, and design of components. 

You will learn the Scan to 3D skills that include processing the cloud point data, Mesh processing, scans & curves, creating surfaces, surface to solid conversion and 3D printing. 

You will learn the fundamentals of fluid mechanics; flow mix and heat transfer; turbulent, transonic, periodic flow; radiation and natural convection and siphoning model, among others.

Reverese Engineering with 3D Printing – 120Institute of Industrial design is bringing a brand new industrial standards based course in Industrial Design with the aim to impart design principles and right skills for model making. This course also focuses on Qualitative and Quantitative research with special emphasis on manufacturing methods.A diploma course in Industrial design is sure to create a baseline for career in ideation and concept creation distinguishing a student’s profile in job recruitment processes.Learning Methodology and Benefits This intuitive course takes a special approach in learning concepts using a structured curriculum that encourages learning through visual aids making it easier to understand designing concepts and their application.The project based study familiarizes a student with industrial standards through industry interaction.Option available to select the project by interest and will be provided an experienced mentor to guide through the difficulties.Students will be entitled to 3 months stipend during the project based study. 

The course imparts comprehensive training in the following CAD software: Sketching – 40 Alias – 80 CFD – 40 BIW – 40

T  Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria

Diploma in Industrial Design is an introductory course and does not place any bar of restriction on admission. Candidate who can join:

  • 10 or 10+2 years educational qualification
  • Graduate candidates
  • Post graduate candidates

For earning the Diploma in Industrial Design, students will have to:

  • Present a thesis describing their research from ideation to concept realization complete with portfolios.
  • Take an examination to validate their understanding of design processes.

The combined efficiency of both will award the degree of Diploma in Industrial Design.

Workshop I for school students (I) Workshop( II) for Engineering Students

Workshop Duration : 3 hours August 20 2019

 

Our Aeronautics and Aerospace Workshops are created for children aged 7 years to 16 years. This unique workshop has a flair to unleash nn the minds of student a curiosity to Aerospace & Aeronautics. We strongly believe this workshop will be an 'Eye Opener' for the inquisitive young minds. The workshop is all about learning with fun and experiments.
The focus of our workshop is to give a holistic view of Aviation / Aeronautics & Aerospace using Practical Demonstrations & Experiments.


Topics Covered :

1. History of Aviation
2. Introduction to Aerodynamics
3. Laws and Principles of Flight
4. Propulsion Mechanics

We have working models of Jet Engine, Internal Combustion (IC) Engine in addition to 3 feet model of Aeroplane to explain different features of an aircraft, how the wings and tail of an aircraft help in manoeuvring it in air.

We also have Rocket Launching Station to showcase how a satellite is sent into Space. We have other models which include a Helicopters, Wing panel apart from a Wind Tunnel to demonstrate how a heavy object like a plane flies.
Our approach is to explain the concepts via practical demonstrations and experiments with participation from all attendees.
The highlight of our workshop is a Virtual Reality Tour of International Space Station.
